"This body of work is a personal narrative that attempts to capture the placidity of certain works of old masters while incorporating heavy use of symbolic and metaphorical imagery evocative of those older pieces to create a visual language of my own. Through this process I attempt to create an allegorical, canonical folk tale incorporating themes of isolation, self loathing and the humbleness of being while relying heavily on the absurd qualities of surrealism to evoke a feeling of mystery and absence of place. My work is inherently inspired by the relationships of my past and present, both sexual and platonic, and the idea of no love lost. I enjoy reiterating moments of my past and juxtaposing them with themes and events of greater significance; sometimes personifying and prescribing them with a sense of ambiguity. My purpose of action is to create work that is innately personal, yet subjectively approachable and identifiable with the viewer." – W.G.
